As we learned in our second class session: worksheets suck. The vast majority of students do not enjoy worksheets, and very few teachers enjoy designing and grading them. That being said, their use in assessing student comprehension and facilitating participation in learning cannot be denied; the worksheet will always have some relevance in the classroom. However: must they be so boring?
Thanks to Wizer, they don't have to be!
Wizer is an application that allows teachers to design interactive digital worksheets for use in their classrooms. Not only does it save paper and ink, but it streamlines the grading process, all while presenting assignments in visually-captivating layouts and appealing to the digitized preferences of today's learners. Google Classroom and Edmodo integrations are available, as are classroom-wide assignments versus assigning single questions to individual students for a collaborative experience.
Worksheets can include open-ended questions, fill-in-the-blanks, matching, multiple choice, charts, and more. Furthermore, teachers are able to embed images, audio, video, and links, thus expanding the learning experience for their students -- all within the context of a simple worksheet. If you aren't using Google Classroom or Edmodo, worksheets are shared with your students via URL.
The basic features of Wizer are free for a single classroom, while the "Awesome Plan" includes all features for $89/year with unlimited classroom rosters. You can also join in with multiple colleagues for all of you to receive a discount. If you've heard a bunch of your coworkers complaining about worksheets, this may be a fantastic solution to propose!
