I find it interesting the way this class will be
structured. Using a video game structure and building up points as the class
goes along to reach a grade is a new experience for me. This new teaching
strategy is going to take some getting used to, but I feel like I will grow to
enjoy it over time. A student needing to master the basic skills before they
move is a root in a majority of video games. This is a root that Terry Heick is
trying to plant in classrooms to master engagement. Heick relates the beginning
lessons to “training sessions” in video games where students can prove their
basic knowledge. Much like our class, the more difficult lessons cannot be
reached until the simple tasks have been achieved. Heick gets rid of the
“struggling student” issue by allowing those who are ready to move forward at
their own pace. He writes more about his unique classroom idea here,Terry Heick- Video Game Classroom
