Writing Connections

During the fall of 2017, I took EXPS298 Writing to Communicate, Learn, and Teach. My professor, Dr. Danielle DeFauw, is in my opinion, the cream of the crop when it comes to educators. Her passion for students and teaching is evident and sometimes she'll leave you with even a tear in your eye from the powerful stories she will share. She doesn't just see her students as just another passerby through her course. She actually invests time and in getting to know her students. That is why when the semester ended she was left wondering how would she share her knowledge and expertise in writing and children's literature with students even after they have graduated. So she decided to start her own blog. Writing Connections was started by Dr. DeFauw in 2018 as a way to connect teachers, writers, students, parents, and authors. I highly recommend you check out this site if you are in the education field or an avid writer. In order for students to become better writers, we as teachers must see ourselves as teacher-writers. How can we do that? Simple. Start writing. Sharing our voice with our kiddos is key to helping them find their own voice. The writing resources provided on this site are invaluable, especially since Dr. DeFauw provides voice threads that are detailed and highly worth listening to. As we all knowing writing is a powerful tool. It can also be challenging and sometimes even intimidating. Just ask me. I spent most of my life suppressing my voice. Then I discovered that I wasn't as horrible a writer as I thought I was. Dr. DeFauw has inspired me to find my voice, and (to no surprise to those who know me well) I haven't been able to shut up since!LOL!
