ClassDojo

Heard of Class Dojo??  ClassDojo is a communication app for the classroom. It is used in 90% K-8 grade schools in the US and the app is free! This app keeps EVERYONE (teachers, parents, and students) involved and connected! My class has embarked on a journey with engaging, meaningful, and rigorous work in our classroom, combined with educational field trips and a plethora of extracurricular activities that I am able to share on this app with a click of a button. 

Using ClassDojo has helped teachers, parents, and students work together as a team. ClassDojo instantly shares photos, videos of the classroom experience, and elicits brilliant ideas to life in our classrooms and homes. The app allows teachers to share announcements and have private messages with parents. You can easily join on any device and a bonus is that this app instantly translates messages into 30+ languages! ClassDojo helps our school to continue to build upon and refine our proven foundation of Authentic Montessori and continued excellence in education. 

Students feel secure when their parents are involved in their education. With parents being involved in the student’s education, it helps raise academic performance. Students are more likely to be engaged in classroom discussions, and activities. Students are also motivated to attend school regularly, complete homework assignments and have positive attitude for learning. 

It has been proven that parents benefit from being involved in their child’s education. Parents can take these activities to help their child to learn, grow and be supportive. Not only are they being supportive of their child’s education, but they are also supporting our schools’ academic program.All my student’s parents feel very much appreciated and confident that they can take the classroom ideas home and play an important role in their child education. 

Parents are very busy people; with juggling between work and their children’s education, this app gives them flexible time to sit and discuss with their child what they learned in school for the day. If the parents have a question, they don’t have to wait for the next morning to have a talk with me. With the flexibility, a quick message through the app makes life easy. As a teacher, I am immensely benefiting from my students and parents using ClassDojo. I feel accomplished when I can share what I am teaching my students. 

This month, ClassDojo has a reflection activity for the students. My students will reflect and write about a well-known Martin Luther King Jr. quote. He once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent questions is, ‘What are you doing for others?” I want to know what my students could do to help others in school, at home and our community. When this assignment is assigned on the app, my students log on to their account and complete the activity. This is a perfect way to continue to build communication with my students and parents. 

Having ClassDojo has saved me countless amounts of paper. This app has saved my parents and I time out of our busy schedule to communicate. With the rise of technology, we can say goodbye to paper and continue to teach our children to thrive in the 21^stcentury.
