Accelerated Reader is an assessment that is designed to assign reading
levels, provide reports, and alert teachers to students who are having difficulties. It is a website where students can choose books to read online, at their own reading level. This is a great resource because it is personalized to each student. I have had personal experience with this website, and I think this is a good resource to keep children reading on a daily basis. This is a technology resource, which incorporates technology with reading. Instead of reading actual books, the students read the books online, take a quiz, and the information given afterwards helps the teacher understand where each child is reading wise. Students are able to track their reading level throughout the year, which helps motivate them to keep reading and get to a higher level! After reading each book, AR gives out a quiz on that certain book to see how well the child understood. If the comprehension is not there, the child does not pass that level, and will have to complete more books at that reading level until they are able to comprehend what they are reading. I do not think that this resource should totally take the place of real books, but I do think it is a great resource for teachers, and students as well, because it keeps track of each students personal reading level.
