Ill hospitalized children lose out on many things in life,
such as social meetings with their friends at school, full lessons in the
classroom, and face to face interaction. With a robotic telepresence, a child
can once again participate in these everyday tasks. The VGo Robotic Telepresence
utilizes cameras and a robot on wheels to appear as though the child is directly
in the room although they are at home or the hospital.
This technology has a small monitor that displays the child’s
face to all others whom look at the robot. The robot has a microphone and
speakers so the child hears everything their teachers, peers, and friends say.
While the child can also talk back to their peers, or ask questions to their teachers
in class. This device is wonderful because it requires little maintenance to be
used and can be fully operated with a remote control. The child has to only
drive the robot into the class atmosphere instead of placing a video call and waiting
for someone to answer. This device will wonderfully keep the child included in
the classroom environment, from the safety of their hospital bed.
