This weekend I went over my friends house to do some studying. Regardless of what we were working on I had an opportunity to teach her something that would later help her. As we talked about Diigo in EDT 211 I didn't think much of it. I thought it was a good idea, but I thought to myself "would people actually use this website?" I have used it somewhat but now I'm more than sure I will keep using it. Being in college has really made me realize that I know a great deal about technology. I am in no way an expert, but it seems like others in my age group know way less than I do. As I was listening to my friend say she would have to bookmark all the websites and later go back to reference them, it clicked! So I asked her if she knew what Diigo was, to which she replied "no."
I quickly logged onto my Diigo account and I let her know the basics. I explained how it was a great way of bookmarking those pesky websites that you will not use daily. I also let her know that when she bookmarks something on her computer it means its limited to that device. If she has a Diigo account then it would make it possible for her to look at her bookmarked sites on any device. This saves the hassle of lugging around your laptop and whatnot. Diigo also has other neat features like highlight and sticky note.
She was genuinely excited to use Diigo. She explained to me that her area of expertise was not technology, and that she would rather have books and papers in front of her. For others like her especially and even for the more tech savvy people I think Diigo is a great site. I personally hate having so many bookmarks especially when I know I am only going to use them once, maybe twice and then later have to go and delete everything I don't need anymore. I tend to like keeping my bookmarks organized to what I use the most. So go ahead and try Diigo for yourself, you might just find it handy.
