VLC media player is tremendously popular, and by good reason – it is absolutely free, supports almost any video format, can optimize the synchronicity of video and audio, and supports streaming. In the ideal world everything would work how you want it and when you want it, but during the years we developed all sorts of formats for music and video - and different mechanisms of delivery also, such as discs or downloads. VLC is on top of it all, and that means that it is the perfect go-to app for any multimedia. VLC play formats which nobody mentioned or used in years and does it quickly. To me, VLC is like the Swiss Army Knife of video software. Take caution however because it is a battery strainer on laptops. If you plan on using this for more than 2 movies in one sitting, have a charger ready or else your students or audience will be furious to not know the ending to Madagascar 2.
