BrainPop
BrainPop is one of my absolute favorite tools that I remember from my 6th grade science class. BrainPop's goal is simple: to help kids understand their world. BrainPop is an elementary learning resource that supports core and supplemental subjects through playful and educator-focused short videos. Their animated videos are designed with relevance, depth, and humor to encourage and engage children during topics that may otherwise seem boring or difficult to understand. BrainPop topics include science, social studies, English, math, arts/music, health, and even engineering and technology. They even offer introductory lessons for supplemental topics like themes, setting goals, global figures, digital etiquette and holidays. BrainPop is not a free tool, but they do offer free BrainPop topics daily. Today, March 21st, is World Poetry Day, so there is a free video on Emily Dickinson. Check it out here!
Beside their videos, there are quizzes at the end of each video. It's a great way to reflect on the lesson and to see if students retained what they watched. There are also worksheets, challenges and other activities that can be printed directly from their website.
