Scratch

Scratch is a free programming website that is designed to help kids (and adults) learn how to code. Users can create games, animations, and interactive stories. Scratch has a block-based approach to coding which makes it easier to understand for coding beginners.

I recently used Scratch to create a game. In my game, I coded (for the first time ever) a small space rover to be able to move around via arrows, collect points by eating little gems, and a 20 second time limit to the game that ended it once the time was up. While simple, this took a lot of work and time and was very fun to create. Scratch is indeed free and is a great tool for teachers to implement with their class to promote knowledge of technology and coding.
