Crash Course is a YouTube channel started by Brothers John and Hank Green. It covers a variety of topics including Science, Civics, and History. Each subject has its own presenter that does not change from video to video. The videos tend to be 10 to 15 minutes long, and focus on a particular topic.
The World History videos are presented by John Green. His style is very rapid fire and full of humor. This keeps viewers engaged while never going too far off track. Often, he is interrupted by a younger version of himself asking a stupid question, which serves as an opportunity to add in more humor and transition to a new concept.
In my Sophomore year of high school, my World History teacher used Crash Course videos at the beginning of a unit to introduce the period we were about to study. The videos cram a lot of information into a short amount of time, which could result in students not retaining everything, but they are perfect for an introduction to a unit.
