FUNBRAIN!

I have very fond memories of Funbrain.com. It has really improved since I've visited the site last. Funbrain is a website for students in grades pre-k through 8th grade. It offers hundreds of free interactive games, books, videos, and printables that help kids develop skills in math, reading, problem-solving, and literacy. Each activity in Funbrain is labeled with what grade(s) it is for, and each grade has a ton of activities to choose from. What is cool about this site is it has many books and videos from authors and shows that students really enjoy, like Judy Moody and Teen Titans Go! The games on Funbrain are wonderful, and they are good practice for school. This is a great site for leisure time because it is safe, it has academic elements to it, and it is a lot of fun!

In this section, it shows stringed instruments, wind instruments, brass instruments, vocal, ensembles, flexible ensembles and other instruments. It also shows the picture of each instrument. For example, when you click on the piano picture, it shows more information about playing the piano, such as different style of piano sheets, different level piano PDF sheet and voice record for children and adults, and when you click on it, it shows you PDF sheets and voice record. TECHNOLOGY CHANGES EVERYTHING

TECHNOLOGY IS THE KEY!

The UB Tech Conference would be very beneficial for educators to attend if possible.  This conference offers information related to technology, and ways to communicate through technology.  Technology has been progressing over the years and is in everyday learning.  In this conference you will learn how to communicate with other educators through various forms of technology.  These forms of technology will differ depending on your on interests.  Technology had been a big way to communicate whether we are communicating to our parents, friends, or even our community.  As educators we have many different ideas that should be shared between on another, and if you attend this conference you will be able to find ways to distribute this information.  The conference would be very beneficial to all educators.

Bibme.org

Bibme.org is truly a lifesaver for students. We all have had to make citations for school papers. With this website, you can make citations for all types of media. This includes journals, websites, books, and videos. Bibme.org can make the citation in whatever format is required for your paper such as MLA, APA, or Chicago/Turabian. This website is insanely easy to use. All you have to do is provide the website with the information it asks of you, and it will put this information in the correct order for a citation. Making citations for a website is a breeze. All you need to do is copy and paste the website’s URL and bibme.org will do all of the searching for you. When your citation is made, you simply just copy and paste it into your paper. This website also can teach you how to make in-text citations as well. Bibme.org is completely free and I haven’t had a problem with any of my citations.

iknowit.com Makes You Work for Its Title!

"iknowit.com" is a fairly new site that can help elementary school math teachers keep students at a good pace while also being able to modify the learning to their own level. It has lessons from kindergarten to 5th grade, and has dozen of informative and focused exercises for each grade! The fun and well-animated characters can be distracting at times, but they also add some entertainment value as every student could feel a sense of accomplishment when the characters on screen are congratulating them for every step they make towards a goal. The site tells you exactly how many problems you have left to go, which can help students to know how much time they should put into each question. It even gives a limited number of hints that students can use per lesson to help them along if they get stuck once or twice.
The site uses a profile based system for each student, which makes it easy for the teacher to see who has completed what lessons. In addition, because it is website-based, it could also be an effective tool to use in tandem with keyboard learning lessons, combining both skills! If a math teacher is looking for something new, modern, and fun for many different grades, look no further than this site!

Chromebooks in the Classroom.

A new school year has begun and my 16 and 9 year daughters are out of my hair and back in the classroom. I attended both the elementary and highschool orientation nights and was quite excited to find a new addition to their classrooms. Both of my daughters will now have access and gain experience using Chromebooks. In my children's school there has never been chromebooks or ipads, and it had me thinking, why now? What will this costly investment offer to my children that the library or a computer lab cannot? So I did some research and this is what I found out….

You can buy a Samsung Chromebook for just about $200 from best buy. It looks like a mini-laptop and from an amateurs point of view has everything that a laptop would offer. It’s rating is 4.6 stars and can complete many tasks associated with education. Now more than ever we rely on the internet to explore our education. I think that my children have a greater chance at being successful having knowledge in navigating a PC or similar device. Teachers now have to educate students on how to research credible sources, and show students how to discern truth from false media or critically analyze information. The use of Chromebooks can show students how to access credible sources, prove thesis statements,  and research subject content without having to go to the library or rely on outside sources. All children will have the ability to get the information they need to complete tasks that they could not otherwise. It is individualized and cooperative. Books are available, collaboration note taking is possible, educational games can help memorization, and projects can all be completed. We are in a Tech savvy global world were my children absolutely need a chromebook in the classroom to keep up with the demands of today's world.

YouTube

A technology that maybe some of you didn’t think of to use for learning is something you probably use every day! YouTube is a great tool for learning! In high school, many of my teachers would actually assign homework that involved watching certain YouTube videos. We watched a lot of videos from John and Hank Green’s “Crash Course” channels. We also would watch BrainPop videos via youtube as well. Since YouTube is so popular, you can probably find a helpful video on any subject for school. You can subscribe to channels to get notifications to when a new video is updated. I find it useful to download the YouTube app rather than getting to it via browser because the formatting is much better and you get extra perks like skipping ahead 10 seconds by double tapping on the right side of a video. When you create a youtube account, it will recommend videos to you based on the vids you have watched. YouTube is free, which is extremely important to us college kids paying tuition. So instead of watching cat videos, (which are extremely entertaining by the way) try using YouTube for educational purposes!

Clue Finders

When I was in elementary school I remember playing these computer games. They had different grade levels which in the game the higher grade levels had harder math problems, bigger word problems to solve, etc. You had to solve math, English, and science problems to move on to the next level. This motivated me to learn because I wanted to reach the next level. I still own my original disks, but they no longer make these games.

FunBrain

In the age of digital natives electronics in the educational system are rapidly booming, and the digital immigrants methods of teaching are surely dying. Children as well as adults generally enjoy playing  games and are motivated to finish something when they can make it interesting; so why not combine the two and make learning enjoyable? well luckily there are plenty of new resources for that. Teachers are now more then ever using games as a new primary source of learning, such as this online website  https://www.funbrain.com/It is an online website that combines games and rewards to learning. This method leaves students wanting more because they are gaining something out of it without realizing they are putting in the efforts to expand their knowledge.
                                                                                                          Image result for funbrain
This online website ranges from K-8 grades of learning. It has different sections for English, math, and sciences as well as videos and readings. In between the learning there are rewards and online games that take learning to a whole new level. This ensures students are getting the most out of their education by allowing them to enjoy their studies and giving them the motivation to come back for more.

ABCmouse.com

ABCmouse.com is website aimed at younger learners, preschool to around 1st grade. If you're a parent and you want your kids to have a head start on school or if they need extra help ABCmouse.com is a good site to use. It has different levels to match different learning abilities. The site is set up like a board game. The child creates an avatar and picks the look of the classroom teacher they want to have. The choices for their avatar are realistic. Real skin tones, hair types, and body types. The child's avatar travels along "the learning path". At each spot on the path the child has to practice a specific skill. Each stop doesn't take long to do and they get magic tickets for each stop they complete. They can also go back and repeat stops as much as they want. Since it's aimed at young learners there are lots of songs, coloring pages, and games for them to do. When they get enough tickets they can "buy" things with the tickets to add to their digital classroom. My younger son uses this site and he enjoys it a lot. The lessons are challenging but doable.

Kahoot!

Kahoot! is an app that allows teachers to add a touch of fun into their recipe of lessons. Kahoot! the app was created in order to help students take quizzes or fun games like trivia. It allows teahers to create engaging yet effective quizzes, It is designed to connect to students nowadays that spend most their time playing games or on electronic devices. When the app is launched on the device being used a screen pops up asking for a unique PIN that students/users get from the "creator" of the quiz you will be taking.
On the teacher's screen presented to you, you see the questions and the 4 multiple choice answers (each answer with a different background color). And on your own device, you have 4 boxes with the 4 colors/shape that was presented behind the answers. You give the answer from your device and it tracks how many wrongs/rights someone answered
It is an amazing way to add creativity and excitement to studying and preparing for exams/quizzes. Kahoot allows you to check up on the progress and understanding of students without adding pressure on them or making them feel bad for not knowing the answer. The results of the game are known by the teacher only and it is a way.
.

PowToon

PowToon is a great way to have your presentations come alive and keep your lessons fun! You can take a subject you're teaching in your classroom and make a short 2- minute animation about it. The animations can turn a "tough" subject into one that they enjoy learning about. See more about "Introducing Tough Topics" and the PowToon website here: https://www.powtoon.com/blog/edu-quick-tip-use-powtoon-introduce-tough-topics/ This tool is easy for your students to create their own presentations too. It's an awesome way to start your students with some basic design and technology skills.

Mad Libs

Mad Libs are a super fun and interactive way for students to practice reading, writing, and other ELA skills studied in the classroom. When I was in Elementary School Mad Libs were available at book stores and they looked just like regular chapter books were you would actually write in them. Today, there is a free app for Mad Libs and that is the technology aspect for this post. On the app, you pick a story line and then you get a blank space with noun, adjective, etc written underneath it. Once you get through all of the blanks, your story pops up for you to read. Also on the app, you can save your story or share it with your friends. In a classroom once students finish they could share it with their classmates so they can see the different words they used versus the words others had used. Along with the app, there are also websites that you can print off Mad Lib sheets from free of charge. Even though the students will be learning ELA skills while doing these activities, they will also be having fun and may learn about some technology aspects too.
Try it out!

Flocabulary

Flocabulary is an awesome site that combines hip-hop music with educational curriculums and lesson plans that meet the Common Core standards for ELA and Math, as well as State Standards for every other subject from grades K through 12. Flocabulary does require an annual subscription, but it is a great resource for teachers and school districts to offer as an alternative to a lecture or class discussion and it weaves technology in with any lesson plan very well. Free trials are available to the website; however, they must be approved and they only last up to forty-five days. Flocabulary also provides training and resources for teachers so that they can use this resource properly in their lesson plans.

Flocabulary states that the website increases student engagement within the classroom and about 25% of students that have used Flocabulary scored higher on their state reading tests. Songs and videos are available for multiple subjects such as Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Life Skills, Vocabulary, and Current Events (available for grades 3 to 12). The Flocabulary site also offers a “Standards Alignment” link where teachers can see how Flocabulary videos match with the standards in their state, subject, and grade level. Teacher resource books are also available for purchase through the website. Flocabulary is an interesting way to incorporate music that appeals to younger students with a teacher’s curriculum to gain the students attention and promote fun learning.
