Osmo is a new game system that combines hands-on play with an iPad. It comes with 7 games that work on all iPad systems.
Osmo can be purchased by both individuals (parents, educators, etc.) or schools. The
Osmo starter kit is only $79, which is really not that much in terms of educational technology.
The Osmo game system is recommended for grades Pre-K through 6. It has pre-programmed curriculum material that cover just about every subject matter: STEM, Phonics, Reading, Handwriting, Spelling, Vocabulary, Geography, Art, and Language. It also offers educators the ability to create their own curriculum.
As a parent, I am intrigued by this new technology, especially with Christmas fast-approaching. Kids are glued to the screen this day and parents and teachers are constantly looking for new hands-on activities that will peak their interest.
Osmo may be the perfect balance of screen-time and hand-on activity.
The
Osmo website says that the system is available for purchase at Best Buy, Target, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, The Apple Store, and Toys 'r' Us. I may just have to try it out for myself.
